Album: Exile from Mainstream

To achieve a more collaborative and just society, we need a positive apocalypse first! Monsoon, based around an immense melodic bass riff, describes a flood that washes away the old capitalist hell scape and creates space for a new world to grow, hopefully proclaiming that “there’ll come a day when we’re not taking all we can!”. One is reminded of classic Pearl Jam, with poetic lyrics, and a brooding atmosphere between tension and hope.
Again, unusual for our age of obsession with perfection and control, Monsoon features an improvised recorder solo and improvised lead guitars, adding to the natural texture of this song.

Lyrics

Rain on the roof - monsoon
Rain on the street - clear the smog make it sweet
Rain on my skin - let a new time begin - monsoon

There’ll come a day when the roots again are thriving
There’ll come a day when mines are healed that scar the land
There’ll come a day when not money’s all the striving
There’ll come a day when we’re not taking all we can

Chase the day when no soil is sold for cash, no
Chase the day when the skies are kissed by trees
Chase the day when corporations are going bust,
Chase the day we’re only taking what we need.

Rain keeps falling
Civilisations falling
With raindrops falling
Healing the mistakes of the ancients

Drown old power
Grow the flower
Monsoon

Story

Monsoon started out with Xavi jamming the signature bass riff that opens the song and Sunny instantly and spontaneously singing the words "monsoon, monsoon" over it.

Xavi then continued to jam on the bass and Sunny wrote the words and melody to that bass, so this is really a deep, earthy song, calling on the power of Mother Earth and Father Sky to wash away the shit that greedy humans produced and set the stage for a cleansed restart.

The lyrics reflect our deep belief that nature will prevail and that seeking to live in harmony with her is what will save us. And that we need to destroy what's destroying us and her!
