Why we're not on Spotify (2025)
The news about Spotify CEO Daniel Ek investing €100 million into AI military tech company Helsing sealed it - we believe music should be a tool to foster peace, love and empathy! We want nothing to do with some sick military bullshit. This was the last straw in a long line of shit, from ripping off artists to AI generated bands to podcasts spreading misinformation and donations to Trump's inauguration...
But we figured that rather than just disappearing, we wanted to raise awareness of WHY we disappeared. Like in Cicero's Verrine speeches, where he talks about the Sicilians tearing down statues of Gaius Verres (an abusive Roman praetor)! That's where the Latin subtitle of the song comes from - "quod gravius in istum" is a short version of Cicero's (In Verrem II.2) "quod gravius in istum fore putabant si scirent homines statuam eius a Tauromenitanis esse deiectam quam si nullam umquam positam esse arbitrantur" - because they thought that it would be more embarrassing for him if people knew that his statue had been toppled by the Tauromenitani than if they thought than none had ever been erected.
